Dr. Philip McCowin graduated Cum Laude from The University of Utah with a degree in Chemistry/ Molecular Biology. He graduated with distinction from the George Washington University Medical School in Washington, D.C., where he also completed his residency and was awarded the North American Spine Society Acromed for Outstanding Spinal Research. Dr. McCowin is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon and is a member of the AOA-National Medical Honor Society. Dr. McCowin is a native of Idaho and is part of a long history of orthopaedic medicine here in Idaho Falls, as he joined with his father to practice orthopaedics in Idaho Falls in 1991. Dr. McCowin practices general orthopaedics with a sub-specialty interest in back and spine care.

  Dr. McCowin has been very active in our medical community and has served as the Chief of the Department of Surgery, Vice President of the Medical Staff, and is President Elect of the Medical Staff. His wife Mary is also from Idaho, and they have four children, Cady, Maggie, Michele and Ty. The McCowins support local charities, scholastics and athletics; Dr. McCowin is member of the Chamber of Commerce and volunteers for the ski patrol at Grand Targhee.
