I'm Dr. Logan Cooper. I specialize in hip and knee replacement and reconstructive surgery. I mostly treat hip and knee arthritis. Those are the conditions that usually lead to somebody needing a hip or a knee replacement. So a lot of times people ask me, when do I know when it's time to either be seen for the first time or think about having a surgery?
I usually give them the answer. If you're at a point in your life where you are avoiding certain activities because you're thinking about your hip pain or your knee pain, it's time to either get in with a specialist and talk about what your options are. Sometimes people have already reached that point and now they're at a point where they need to consider having a surgery. After I've met a patient for the first time and they've come to see me for their first visit, I want them to be able to walk away from that appointment, from that visit, having confidence that I am there looking out for their best interest and not my own best interest. I'm not there to just offer them a surgery.
I'm there to treat them in a way that they need. And if that's a non-operative treatment, that's just offering them some physical therapy and non-surgical ways of pain relief, then great. If it's something that they need to be a little more aggressive and think about more invasive options, such as a surgery, I just want them to be able to walk away with the confidence that I'm offering them that treatment because I truly feel like it is what's best for them, not what's best for me. I was first drawn to orthopedic surgery because it's a field where somebody has pain and we have a solution to their problem.
So it's very gratifying to see somebody come in in chronic pain, be able to treat them surgically or not surgically and see their pain improve and go away and we've actually cured their problem. If you're someone that's dealt with joint pain for far too long, come in and see us at Summit Orthopedics. Myself or one of our other fellowship trained providers will get you started back on the right track.
