How We Do It

Treatment Options

Our targeted therapies tackle sports injuries, trauma, and fractures with accuracy and skill. At Summit Orthopaedics, we provide individualized approaches that enhance mobility and elevate quality of life.

Accurate Diagnosis

Every plan begins with a thorough exam and the right imaging (X-ray, MRI, etc.). When needed, we also perform tests like EMG to evaluate nerve function.

Conservative Care

Most patients start with non-surgical treatments such as activity modification, bracing, physical therapy, and image-guided injections to reduce pain and improve mobility.

Advanced Interventions

If symptoms persist, we offer minimally invasive procedures and surgical options — including ACL and shoulder repairs, spine surgery (cervical or lumbar), and joint preservation or replacement.

Special Programs & Technology

For qualifying patients, we use advanced options like motion-preserving implants (e.g., Mobi-C cervical disc) and robotic-assisted surgery for greater precision and faster recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about sports inguries and our patient care approach.

What are the most common sports injuries you treat?

We routinely care for ankle sprains, ACL and meniscus tears, rotator cuff and labral injuries, tendinitis, stress fractures, and shoulder dislocations. Whether your injury occurred on the field, court, or job site, our team provides accurate diagnosis and evidence-based care.

How do I know if my sports injury needs medical attention?

If you experience significant pain, swelling, bruising, numbness, a popping sound, or difficulty moving or bearing weight, you should be evaluated. Early assessment helps rule out fractures or ligament tears and prevents long-term complications.

What is the RICE or PEACE & LOVE method I’ve heard about?

These are acronyms for soft-tissue injury care. RICE stands for Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation. PEACE & LOVE adds Protection, Elevation, Avoid anti-inflammatories, Compression, Education, and then Load, Optimism, Vascularization, and Exercise — emphasizing active recovery and education for better outcomes.

How do you diagnose sports injuries at Summit Orthopaedics?

Our providers start with a focused exam and detailed review of how the injury occurred. Imaging such as X-ray, MRI, or ultrasound is ordered when needed to evaluate bones, ligaments, and tendons. On-site bracing or splinting is available for immediate stabilization.

How do you determine when an athlete can safely return to sport?

We follow stage-based return-to-play criteria, focusing on pain-free range of motion, strength and balance testing, and movement quality. Each plan is tailored to the sport, position, and athlete’s goals.

Does Summit Orthopaedics help prevent future injuries?

Yes. We emphasize injury prevention through strength training, flexibility work, neuromuscular control, proper footwear, and load-management education. Our team partners with athletes, trainers, and physical therapists to help prevent re-injury and improve performance.

Dr. Rencher hands down is an amazing doctor!! I have been to Summit for my neck seeing another doctor and when I found out I needed to see an Orthopedic Surgeon, I knew right away this is where I wanted to go! I highly recommend this office to anyone and everyone!!! Dr. Rencher is a very straight forward no BS kinda guy! He gives you all the positives, negative, and any concerns of what is going on. He allows his patients to make most decisions for themselves and respects their choices. Dr. Rencher is not a let's just jump to surgery kinda doctor either!! He will work with you on all scans you need, Physical Therapy, natural ways of healing if possible. I'm so happy I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Rencher, his assistant Shawn, and all other Summit staff!!!
