A finger that clicks, catches, or briefly locks when it bends is not moving randomly. These symptoms may be caused by trigger finger, a condition in which an irritated tendon has difficulty gliding smoothly. It can affect everyday tasks such as gripping, typing, opening containers, or performing repetitive hand work.

Trigger finger is more common than many people realize. Depending on the severity and duration of the symptoms, treatment may include rest, splinting, or an in-office procedure.
